Melissa Scott-Miller

Melissa Scott-Miller was born in London in 1959 and went to the Slade school of fine art 1977-81, where she was taught by Jeffrey Camp,Patrick George, Leonard Mcomb and Lucian Freud. She has exhibited in many group and one person exhibitions, including the Royal academy summer exhibition this year and 22 previous times, also in the BP portrait award exhibition five times and twice in the Threadneedle prize exhibition.In 1999 she was elected to the Royal society of portrait painters and in 2008 became a member of the New English art club, and this year was elected a member of the Royal society of British artists.Melissa has won many prizes and awards such as the Elizabeth Greenshield foundation award in 1985 and in 2008 she won first prize at the Lynn Painter Stainers award exhibition and this year won the people's choice prize.

Melissa paints mainly urban landscapes,  she is fascinated by light and pattern and texture particularly the bricks and slates of London buildings and the flora and fauna found in city parks and gardens. She also aims to portray the emotional relationship she has with London, where she has lived as a child, a mother and a dog owner!
