“The two new paintings that I am exhibiting here are based on memories of real places that I know. The first ‘The Land of Strange Music’ is a folly on Summerhouse Hill near Yeovil, whenever I walked there I would hear the strangest music coming from the building. ‘Late evening, early summer, seventy miles away’ has been a labour of love. It is a large painting of the view from Rhandirmwyn near Llyn Brianne which isn’t too far from Llandovery. . I’ve really exaggerated the landscape and its features to try and capture, the depth of the landscape, the vibrancy and the magic of the place.”

‘The painting is inspired by a day out soil sampling with my friend Juliet in the fields around the village of Bayton near Cleobury Mortimer. It was frosty and cold but somehow the painting has ended up being high summer! I was intrigued by certain features in the landscape, the steepness of the hills and the feeling the place was quite untouched, nothing could really be farmed there because of the geography.’
Biography
Lynda Jones was born in Sunderland in 1970, settling in Monmouth in the early 1980’s, where she has lived ever since. She studied Art Foundation at Newport College of Art & Design, followed by a degree in Visual Art at The University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
