“I have a deep interest in traditions of practice, in colour, line, mark-making and edge. Imagery springs form anything that excites: communication, laughter, touch, tension, flight, landscape, the spaces between and things sacred.”

Biography
Winner of national and international awards since graduating from Norwich school of Art in 1976 her egg tempera paintings, prints and drawings have been exhibited worldwide from USA, Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, across Europe and the UK in galleries and museums. She has represented the UK at Florence, Palermo and Venice Biennale and at the Salon des Independants, Grand Palais, Paris. Artwork is also in public and private collections and continues to evolve.
Using fifteenth century methods of Cennino d’Andrea Cennino, imagery is mainly worked in tempera comprised of ground mineral pigments mixed with egg yolk and distilled water. The tempera is laid down on gessoed, linen wrapped oak panels between gilded shapes of 24 carat gold leaf. Much time passes between each process. Many drawings of thoughts and ideas form stimuli for the paintings, some also become series of drawings, watercolours, prints, scrolls, artist’s books and sculptures.
“Maz Jackson is an allegorical, post-modern medievalist involving the viewer with a subtle and wonderful figurative and chromatic mystery.”
