“I lived in California for a short time. My family was deeply affected by the devastating wildfires that almost destroyed our home. When the danger had passed, I walked the fire ravaged sites collecting remnants of scorched and discarded wood. Fascinated, I studied Yakisugi, the Japanese method of charring and preserving wood and it changed my artistic direction from ceramics to sculpting in wood”.
