Fi Underhill

I've been making pots for almost five years now, since walking into North Street Potters in early 2013 and persuading them to take me on as an apprentice, with little to no ceramic skills. What I did have was a shed-load of enthusiasm, determination and a strong, deep-down desire to become a potter, and so I began.

Over the years, and through my work both as a maker and tutor, I have experienced the transformative powers of clay. Not only am I mindful of the way in which it has positively impacted on my own life, I have also seen the way it can unleash creativity and encourage vitality in the majority of those who come into contact with it. I think clay is a little bit magic and I'll expand upon my thoughts about this in my blog...

Since leaving London in 2015, I design and make all my pots in my small studio in the back of an old VW van on an organic farm which, I suppose, is a bit unusual. Who knows what the future holds so for now, my aim is to keep making pots that I find beautiful and interesting and useful and, hopefully, others will too.
