Artist
Carolyn Tripp
Carolyn is a classically trained ceramic artist receiving her degree in ceramics from Camberwell School of Art under the professorship of Richard Slee in the 1990’s. Following a break for family Carolyn returned to her practice with a new body of work in 2018.
Carolyn throws in porcelain at her south London studio, creating shapes clearly influenced by her interest in traditional Chinese and Japanese ware. Her work is highly decorated and her process involves the making and then tearing of beautiful pattern to create abstract meaning in response to both childhood memory and historical reference.
Seeking to give each piece its own identity, Carolyn mixes patterns and glazes to create work that exudes individuality even when grouped collectively.
With its ability to create desirability, alongside craftsmanship, Carolyn’s work sits comfortably within the field of contemporary applied art ceramics.
