I am an abstract landscape painter working from my studio in the seaside village of Borth, on the West Coast of Wales. Borth is a beautiful ramshackle village that is battered by storms every winter but that still clings on, enjoying the benefits of being so intrinsically linked to the sea.
This series of work aims to capture what it’s like to live at the edge of the sea in Autumn and Winter alongside an ocean that sometimes rages and roars and that sometimes lies ominously flat and grey. I have fallen in love with deep, cold dives into dark water and with golden storm clouds rolling across the sky. My paintings have developed out of frothy swims in winter waves, the calm of floating on the surface on a still day, and from quiet moments looking out over the fields, cliffs and tumbling rooftops that join the sea at the shore.
