“I was captivated by this view as I had seen a painting the artist Hammershoi painted of almost exactly this view when he lived in Great Russell street. I love the lighting and shadows of the balcony of the house on the corner and behind the big plane tree is part of the British museum. I painted it quite late at night and there weren’t many people around, the electric scooters and bikes that are for hire seem to take on a human quality, like they are just hanging around waiting for something to happen!”
