“During the first lockdown in 2020, for those first few sunny weeks, it was as though there was a collective sigh of relief and rest happening alongside the sheer awfulness of the
Pandemic. The land rested, skies cleared, the roads were quiet and birdsong filled the air.
It was my 49th year and a time for reflection. My roots in the farmland of the Shropshire hills, continue to have huge significance to my work, alongside that are the contributions made by others to my practice as an artist.
This exhibition is an opportunity for me to express thanks to some of the artists who have in different ways influenced my journey as a painter. Some produce work I return to again and again, some have taught me through the example of their own dedication, some have given encouragement when I had none of my own. An exhibition which coincides with the year of my 50th birthday is a great opportunity to look back with gratitude and forward with hope.”
