James Campbell Curates – ‘A Melodic Line’
14th June – 13th July 2019
Renowned potter James Campbell will be exhibiting new work alongside his own curated selection of artists and makers.
“Last year, Mary and Hugh Elliott of Twenty Twenty Gallery, kindly asked me to curate an exhibition, and, rather selfishly, I have taken the opportunity to share these beautiful spaces with a group of people whose work I really admire. There was no concept, and when later on the question of a title arose, my mind was a blank. Titles can be useful – they give a clue to the viewer, an invitation, and a way into the work – not that any of this work needs signposting, for it is all highly accessible. This is much more than a collection of line drawings : but we all use line, in ways that are personal, developed, spirited, and expressive. You can see it here, in mono printed shapes, in slip trailing, in wire, in wood engraving … and in drawing too. An improvising musician may think in terms of a melodic line spinning out over chords. I hope that in this show there will be lines that sing.”
