Wendy Hoare

I produce large .one-off sculptural pots, entirely built from hand-rolled coils of clay, a feature for interior and exterior display.

I have a degree in fine art. I specialised in sculpture; carving, life drawing, a study of

Greek ceramics. I learned to pot during my years as an art teacher.

My work is not functional, but often related to traditional vessel shapes. Inspiration

comes from the natural world; seashells, nutshells, berries on stalks, the curve of land

-scape and human body. I hope each pot will be an adventure into form ,line and

texture. Textures are achieved by the building process, the type of clay used and

deliberate planning.

I use several clays of different colours and qualities. I find this stimulating . It also

helps provide extra colour variation ,as decoration is simply oxides / stains and

frit to enhance the surface qualities
