Tamara Gomez designs and hand crafts fine and fashion jewellery from her studio in London. Born in Sri-Lanka, Tamara trained at Loughborough College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art graduating in1997.
‘I design and make jewellery using fine and sterling silver, various carats of gold, rough diamonds and gem stones. Intuitive and serendipitous by design my jewellery is earthy and organic in style which is derived from my interest in adapting traditional goldsmithing techniques and processes such as forging, forming and texturing metal with a variety of tools. I enjoy the mark making process that such techniques involve and the visual results they create. I have always used gemstones in my work and my choice of stone is often based on cut, colour, shape and form as opposed to monetary or commercial value. I often use assorted cuts of diamonds in my work including rough diamonds for each stone’s inherent visual qualities and rose cut diamonds for their subtle glow. I enjoy working in precious metals due to the range of alloys available, the colours they imbue and the physical properties each alloy has’.
