Michelle Oh is a London based designer / maker working from a studio in East London. Her work is often inspired by the quotidian and the commonplace, with a special emphasis on the relationships around her. Finding treasure in what others overlook, Michelle's design process is sensitive to the little accidents that other designers may cast aside as imperfections.
Working mainly as an Artisan jeweller, Michelle's work has been exhibited and sold internationally in exemplary independent boutiques such as Artisan Social Designer (Paris) and Koshka (Berlin). Her work is also available for purchase online through a number of stockists. In her personal series, We Were Here, textures encountered at home were moulded and cast into precious permanent copies of the memories attached to them. Fibres and lint gathered from home furnishings become cherished specimens of adornment paired with fine silver and gold. This interest in gathering and collecting elements from daily experiences can also be seen in the Whitstable Beach Studs. From hand picked mismatched pebbles, pieces of sea glass to sterling silver driftwood, this is a collection of memento ear studs. Encrusted is a collection of easy to wear pieces born from a lucky accident during experimentation with a new material.
Drawing inspiration from life in the city where nature struggles to coexist with the sprawling growth of man made structures, pieces in this collection feature curious coral-like encrustations paired with the smooth clean lines of geometric forms and freshwater pearls. Each piece is versatile and can be worn stacked or layered.
