Lucy Elsie Harvey is a visual artist and jeweller whose work responds to our narrative relationship with objects through craft processes and assemblage. Her aesthetic inspiration calls on the authority and suggestive power of military honours or fetishistic objects and she strives to exhibit the imperfect but enigmatic marks of making with dents and scratches alongside skilled making techniques.
Her practice is inspired by personal collection, museums and the symbolism of the everyday object. Using mimicry and subversion she unravels the journey of making behind craft objects in order to weave new narratives in jewellery, exploiting the body as a platform to communicate stories.
Her enquiry led work is held in the permanent collection at Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art and she has undertaken residencies and commissions for Aberystwyth Arts Centre, National Glass Centre Sunderland, and The Art Fund. In 2011 she was shortlisted for the Jerwood Visual Arts Maker's Open and was selected for the Crafts Council Hothouse programme in 2010.
Lucy is based in Manchester, UK, and enjoys train journeys.
