Katy Alston
Katy Alston lives and works from her studio in Shropshire. Working in pen and ink, watercolour and coloured pencils, she explores different view points, often taking in an aerial view and shifting the subject accordingly.
"Since graduating from West Surrey College of Art and Design in 1988, I have been lucky enough to manage to paint sometimes full time, sometimes less so whilst my children are growing up. In recent years I have developed more of an illustrational style but still have a fascination with the space contained within the picture.
Map making has become a major interest and I really enjoy the challenge of large expanses of detail!
I have also started printmaking again - linocutting - which I hadn't done for a long time. Its a slower medium, more deliberate and makes me slow down too and take a bit more
time and enjoyment in the process itself."
