Lily Sawtell
Lily studied sculpture at Harrow School of Art in London, and her figures have gone to collectors as far afield as the U.S., New Zealand and Australia, as well as throughout the U.K. and Europe. Her love of African and Oceanic art is clearly reflected in her work and the early influence of Brancusi and Modigliani have contributed to the special character of her figures.
In 2006 Lily visited a major Modigliani exhibition which has inspired her new sculptures which are based on paintings by the artist. 'Marie', 'Beatrice H', 'Female Nude' and 'Reclining Nude' are all limited edition pieces.
Lily Sawtell exhibits her figures regularly at the main Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) flower shows such as Chelsea, Hampton Court, Malvern and Tatton Park in Cheshire. She works from her home studio near Wells in Somerset and can be visited there by appointment outside of show times.
Lily likes her sculpture to be practical, which is why she enjoys making fountains and planters. And she likes a happy life, which you can feel in her work.
