Delyth Jones
After working as a freelance illustrator for a number of years, Delyth took time off to join a ceramics course. After her first session she knew she was hooked. After leaving college in June 2002 she worked as Artist in Residence at Richmond School of Art. During August 2003 her work was selected for the National Eisteddfod of Wales and in October was also selected for Chelsea Craft Fair. Her work featured on Harlech television’s ‘the visit’ and in 2004 she was nominated for BBC Homes& Antiques ‘talent around britain’ bursary award.
Delyth had grown up on a family farm in North Wales. Each of her farm animals is individually made by hand, folded from a flat piece of earthenware clay and manipulated to create an animal with it’s own character. After kiln firing twice the piece is then bedded in sawdust in a small pit at the end of her garden. The sawdust is lit and gently smoulders for 24 hours, this leaves a beautiful and permanent soft, smokey pattern.
