Betsy Smith

Born in 1930 and wanting to paint since the age of 10 years, Betsy Smith won a scholarship to High Wycombe Technical College to study Art & General Studies when she was just 13 years old.  After leaving college Betsy got a job designing fabrics and scarves.  This was the start of an interesting career which led to work with an advertising agency in London in the 1950’s, having a family, working in the U.S.A and opening a shop, which was also the outlet for Betsy’s paintings.

This exhibition of new paintings features both watercolour and acrylic works.  Bold use of colour and dramatic composition is a signature of Betsy Smith's work.  More recently the acrylics are scraped and reworked,  creating texture and drawn elements.
